Description
Mechanism of action
Anastrozole
It reduces circulating levels of estradiol by inhibiting aromatase, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of estrogens from androgenic precursors.
Therapeutic indications
Anastrozole
Treatment of advanced hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women.
Adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with early-stage hormone receptor-positive invasive breast cancer.
Adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with early-stage hormone receptor-positive invasive breast cancer who have received adjuvant tamoxifen therapy for 2 to 3 years.
Mode of administration
Anastrozole
Oral route. Administer every day at the same time regardless of meals.
Contraindications
Anastrozole
Hypersensitivity to anastrozole. Pregnant or lactating women.
Warnings and precautions
Anastrozole
Moderate-severe IH (assess risk/benefit), severe RI.
Avoid in premenopausal women.
Risk of reduced bone mineral density (assess bone mineral density at the start of treatment and at regular intervals thereafter).
Avoid concomitant use with tamoxifen or estrogen-containing therapies.
Not recommended for children and adolescents. Do not administer with growth hormone treatment to children with growth hormone deficiency.
