Description
Ephedrine belongs to the group of medicines called Sympathomimetics. It is used to treat hypotension (low blood pressure) which commonly occurs following a spinal anesthesia. It raises blood pressure by temporarily narrowing the blood vessels supplying the heart.
During treatment with EPHEDRINE your doctor will constantly monitor your heart function and blood pressure to avoid any unwanted side effects.
Inform your doctor before receiving EPHEDRINE if you are taking or taken any medicines used to treat depression such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (such as phenelzine, selegiline, isocarboxazid) in the last 14 days.
You must also inform your doctor if you have any heart problems (such as angina or irregular heartbeat), hypertension, diabetes, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, or prostate enlargement.
EPHEDRINE is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women and it should be used in pregnant women only if considered necessary by the physician. It is not suitable for use in children (aged below 18 years) due to lack of safety data.
The common side effect of receiving EPHEDRINE are nausea, headache, weakness, shortness of breath. Consult your doctor immediately if the symptoms worsen.
